Securex West Africa 2016: a great success.

Securex West Africa 2016: a great success.

Securex West Africa 2016, organized by Afrocet Montgomery, ran from the 1–3 March at the Landmark Centre Lagos.

It's the largest commercial, homeland, cyber security, fire protection and safety exhibition held in West Africa.

The change in location to the purpose built exhibition venue, provided the perfect backdrop for the leading minds in the security and public safety industries in West Africa to convene and discuss the hot topics affecting the region.
The event was opened by a high table discussion with Major General I. H. Edet, General Officer Commanding 81 Division, Nigerian Army; AIG Bala Hassan, Assistant General of Police; Adekunle Ajanaku, State Director, Department of State Services Lagos and Dr Ona Ekhomu, Chairman for the Association of Industrial Security and Safety Operators of Nigeria (AISSON) followed by a ribbon cutting. A high visitor turnout over the three days meant exhibitors were kept busy at their stands, with the majority commenting on the quality of those in attendance which developed into a large number of new business opportunities.

“SECUREX WA 2016 was a must attend because of the quality of offerings in education and exhibition. West Africa should always take advantage of this forum when it presents itself again” Ubong King Chairman ASIS, CEO Protection Plus Services.

CONFERENCE
The focus of the conference agenda on day one was Homeland Security and Protection of Critical National Infrastructure, which offered insight into the exact nature of the threat faced in West Africa and how oil companies can better protect their investments in large scale sites.
On day two, attention turned to the Corporate Security Sphere and A Safer Cities Model. Here the speakers were discussing the impact of cyber security on today’s organisations, best practice for efficiency in the banking security sector and the level of surveillance required to make a city safe.
And to round off the conference program, day three was devoted to Counter Terror with a final session on the Landscape of Nigeria’s Security Industry which provided a great summary of the talks over the three days.
With speakers from the Nigerian State, Army and Police, MRS Oil Nigeria, Dahua Technologies, Centre for Strategic CyberSpace & Security Services (CSCSS), ASIS Nigeria Chapter and OSHA among others, the full range of viewpoints and opinions were shared at the event. Each talk was well attended with the speakers remarking that the questions they received were pertinent and showed a real thirst for knowledge by those in the audience.

“I was pleasantly surprised with the turnout and the actionable leads we generated. It is not always the amount of people that makes a show great but the quality people that makes such an event worthwhile for us to partake.” Wouter Du Toit, Salto Systems.
