Security Essen 2014: The Security Market in Germany

Important and interesting figures, data and facts about the Security Market in Germany can be found in the following report.
Development of the turnovers in those fields in Germany which are represented at Security Essen (see figures).
In the period from 2011 to 2013 as well, the fields and sectors represented at Security Essen have once again experienced a steady further development in their turnovers.
All in all, the turnover increased by eight percent to Euro 11.9 billion in this two-year comparison.

(Data in Euro billions, some turnovers estimated by experts)
This growth is essentially accounted for by the fields of security services and electronic danger alarm installations.
1) The Security Service Providers in the Security Industry
Around 4,000 security service companies earned a turnover of approx. Euro 5.1 billion in Germany in 2013 (see the table). Thus, they account for 43 percent of the total turnover of the German security industry amounting to Euro 11.9 billion.

For the two-year period from 2011 to 2013, this results in a growth rate of approx. seven percent in the turnover of the private security service providers.
The proportions of the total turnover which were attributed to the various main activities of the security industry have hardly changed. 60 percent was once again accounted for by property protection services. Money and valuables services and airport security each made up ten percent. District patrol services as well as emergency call and service control rooms each accounted for five percent. The protection of military installations had a six-percent share while security services during track-laying work constituted four percent. The essential customer groups are banks with a 14-percent share of the turnover, authorities / public services with 13 percent as well as transport and logistics with eight percent.
2) Electronic Danger Alarm Installations
With regard to security management, citizens and companies are continuing to place their faith in technical support. The market for electronic security systems has still exhibited a continuous upward development in recent years: by eleven percent in the period from 2011 to 2013 under consideration. This development is also still based, above all, on the positive development of the fire alarm installations (+14 percent). After years of stagnation, hold-up and intruder alarm technology is nevertheless exhibiting slight increases: a plus of five percent in the two-year period under consideration.
This extremely low growth in hold-up and intruder alarm technology is difficult to understand in view of the numbers of house burglaries which have once again risen sharply in individual federal states in recent years (for example, Baden-Württemberg recorded an increase of 32 percent in 2013). The fact that burglaries can be prevented by utilising security technology is shown by the increasing proportion of unsuccessfully aborted burglary attempts of meanwhile approx. 40 percent in recent years. Thus, it should be expected that it is primarily people in the private field who will themselves take more precautions against burglaries.

3) Locks and Mountings
The field of locks and mountings will also continue its positive development due to the good economic situation in the building trade and to the various promotion programmes of the federal government and the federal states for the energy-related renovation of buildings which, of course, are also reflected in the replacement of doors and windows. Furthermore, there is a market revival in this field as a result of the increasing significance of mechatronic locking systems.
