Security Essen and The Security Market in Germany: Figures, Data and Facts About the Sector

In the period from 2013 to 2015, the fields and sectors represented at Security Essen have experienced a steady further development in their turnovers.
All in all, this resulted in a 17-percent plus up to Euro 14.5 billion in this two-year comparison.
This growth is accounted for, in particular, by a high growth rate of 21 percent in the field of the security services.
Development of the turnovers in those fields in Germany which are represented at Security Essen:

1) The Security Service Providers in the Security Industry
The over 4,000 security service companies earned a turnover of approx. Euro 6.9 billion in Germany in 2015. Thus, they now account for approx. 47 percent of the total turnover of the German security industry amounting to Euro 14.5 billion.
For the two-year period from 2013 to 2015, this results in a growth rate of approx. 21 percent in the turnover of the private security service providers. The main sources of turnover were property protection services with 54 percent of the turnover, airport security with eleven percent, emergency call and service control rooms with ten percent as well as money and valuables services with seven percent.
One new utilisation field is the protection of refugee accomodation.
In 2015, five percent of all the staff were deployed in this area. Moreover, that should have made a substantial contribution to the growth of the turnover in the sector in 2015.
2) Electronic Security Technology
The market for electronic security systems has exhibited a continuous upward development in recent years: by 19 percent in the period from 2013 to 2015 under consideration. This development is also still being borne, above all, by the positive development of the fire alarm installations ( plus 24 percent) which is resulting from the notable demand for smoke alarms. Moreover, the turnovers with hold up and intruder alarm installations are exhibiting rates of increase of ten percent in the two-year period under consideration.
The strong market growth of hold-up and intruder alarm installations as well as the growth in the field of locks and mountings are being promoted by current developments. For example, the number of burglaries has risen sharply in recent years, in the case of domestic burglaries alone by twelve percent up to 167,136 in the last two years. In view of these figures, the federal government has decided to promote the installation of security technology in homes using programmes of the Credit Institute for Reconstruction (KfW). This decision taken by the feder al government was certainly also confirmed by the fact that, in the meantime, 43 percent of all burglary attempts are prevented, above all, by utilising security technology and grind to a halt at the attempt stage, as indicated by the crime statistics.
3) Locks and Mountings
The field of locks and mountings will also continue its positive development due to the good economic situation in the building trade and to the various promotion programmes of the federal government and the federal states which are aimed at the energy-related renovation of buildings and, of course, are also reflected in the replacement of doors and windows.
